What is Emotional Intelligence?
The Business Case for Emotional Intelligence
Emotional Intelligence is that set of skills that allow us to better perceive and understand our emotions, the emotions of others, and the impact of our emotions on others. It allows us to better self-regulate feelings, which would otherwise interfere with our cognitive resources and escalate into counter-productivity. In business, we deal with this balancing act, daily.
Emotional Intelligence can be developed and improved over time. All that is required is practice, a desire and commitment to improve and a foundation of self-awareness.
Increase Profitability through Emotional Intelligence Management Training
In a company, management is responsible for leading employees while overseeing the operations and fiscal health of the business. How managers lead employees impacts employee engagement and productivity, customer satisfaction and loyalty, and the overall financial well-being of the business.
Research has provided clear evidence that leaders with higher emotional intelligence than their colleagues, are more successful.
At Orca Management Advisors, we provide emotional intelligence management training and workshops, designed to develop and improve the emotional intelligence of a company’s management team.
We begin each emotional intelligence management training program and workshop by administering our Genos® Emotional Intelligence Assessment. Our proprietary assessment measures six competencies of emotional intelligence.
Self-Awareness
Influences how aware you are of your feelings, and how those feelings impact interactions with your employees, clients, and colleagues. The more self-awareness, the more conscious you are of how your feelings impact your personal interactions. Managers who demonstrate a high degree of self-awareness are said to be present. Managers who demonstrate low self-aware managers, tend to be disconnected from their colleagues.
Awareness of Others
Influences how aware you are of the feelings of those around you. Managers, who demonstrate a high degree of awareness of others, are more empathetic towards their colleagues. Managers who demonstrate low awareness of others, tend to be insensitive towards colleagues.
Authenticity
Influences how openly and effectively you express yourself and how you honor your commitments. Managers, who demonstrate a high degree authenticity are more sincere and straightforward when providing feedback to colleagues. Managers who demonstrate low authenticity, are perceived by colleagues as untrustworthy.
Emotional Reasoning
Influences how well you consider your feelings and the feelings of your employees, clients, and colleagues in your decision-making. Managers, who are more considerate of their feelings and the feelings of colleagues, are more open-minded in their decision-making. Managers, who neglect feelings, tend to be close-minded in their decision-making.
Self-Management
Influences how well you manage your moods and feelings, and how well you strive for self-improvement. Managers, who can manage their feelings and moods, are more resilient when confronted with perceived threats. Managers, who have a harder time managing their feelings, become temperamental and moody when confronted with perceived threats.
Positive Influence
Is a measure of a your ability to create a positive environment by positively influencing the way others feel through problem solving, feedback, and recognizing and supporting the work of others. Managers, who demonstrate a positive influence, empower and motivate colleagues. Managers, who do not demonstrate a positive influence, are indifferent towards colleagues
